Beatrice Ortiz, age 37, was convicted of voluntarily manslaughter in connection with the stabbing death of Charles "CJ" Stankiewicz on August 19, 2019, the office reports.
Prosecutors referenced surveillance footage that captured Ortiz grabbing a knife and plunging it into Stankiewicz's chest outside a business on Union Street in Lynn. The incident happened after the two had gotten into a fight, the office reports.
Stankiewicz's body was later found with the knife still in his chest between two cars at 110 Union Street, the office said. He was taken to Salem Hospital where he later died.
"Charles lived in Massachusetts for many years, as well as in New Jersey and California," his obituary reads. "His loving family and friends will always remember his charm, wit, warmth and humor. Many were touched by his humble, philosophical, and tender nature."
Essex Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Gillespie also referenced Ortiz's past life aggressions, saying, “she has had the benefit of probationary sentences over and over.” Gillespie added that the whole incident "could have been avoided."
